Introduction
Borned in 1987, I was brought up by my parents who worked as a hawker in the wet market selling fresh poultry. I have 2 siblings, one elder sister and one younger brother. What I could recall is that we would used to have our meals weekly inside some Chinese Restaurant and my favourite dish would always be a nicely roasted plate of suckling pig.
I studied in Kebun Baru Primary School, Mayflower Secondary School (Technical Stream), ITE Bishan completing Higher Nitec with a certificate in Accounting, Went to Ngee Ann Polytechnic and completed year 1 with GPA 4.00 and quitted school. Why did I do that? I'm really sick and tired of studying because I have to, it's only paper chasing. I want to prove myself in other ways.. I don't want to follow what everybody is doing now in this society.
Currently, I'm living with my Mother and my younger brother as my sister just got married and shifted to her new BTO flat. Hence I'm the baton holder now to help support my mother in clearing the HBO debt worth $141k.
Joining Army
After I quitted after year 1 in Polytechnic, I was enlisted into army few months later. I was posted into BMT leadership batch. One day, there was this recruitment talk where recruits would be asked to go to the auditorium to listen to various units recruiter talk about their own work and life style.
Straight to the point, eventually I selected Guards because I liked the vocation logo and the word 'Elite' Infantry. I decided to sign on into a tough vocation looking to train myself to become better. Up till now, it's 5 years, I've attained the rank of SSG.
Transportation
I don't have a transport although I have a Class 2B bike license. Considering the bike insurance, road tax, petrol fee, parking fee and maintenance. I rather take the expensive and crowded public transport which cost about $50 - $80 per month.
Why I Started Investing
One fine day in 2014. I woke up and started pondering what can I do with that $50k inside my POSB Savings Account. I consulted my friend and have a talk with him.
Suggestion from my friend was:
1)
2) Buy Stocks (blue chips stocks)
3) Save to buy a Property and have it rented out to generate monthly income.
Buying a property seems like a long way for me but I guess I have to start with Stocks first before I can reach the next stage in buying a Property later. Personally, I am not interested in Mutual Funds, and Fixed Deposit as it offers a low return rate and it doesn't grow together with the inflation rates.
